Generally the need arises when you buy or sell a home or parcel of land. Since this transaction represents a large and important investment to you and your family, we believe that it is best for you to understand what a survey is and its importance.
A professional survey will protect your investment and clearly define boundary lines as determined by your deed and tying your land into known markers and qualifiers set in place by surveyors who came before. Each surveyor has a due diligence to determine boundary based on the deeds of the property, as well as surrounding deeds. Many unseen hours go in to researching the property and calculating placement of boundary markers.
Make sure you give yourself (and your surveyor) plenty of time to complete the work. What you see in the field is only a small percentage of the work being done. Often surveyors
are booked out weeks or even months in advance. Do not wait to order your survey.
For a person to practice surveying in Ohio, they must be licensed and registered under the laws of the State of Ohio as a Professional Surveyor.
